A couple of days ago, EXO released a Japanese track "Bird", and as much as this song made so many fans so incredibly happy, it also generated so much anger due to the fact that one of the members, Sehun, had no lines throughout the entire track.
I, myself, was quite shocked that he didn't get the chance to utter a single word, and I touched upon the issue in my review of the song, but I wanted to create this post to talk about a problem many idols,unfortunately,suffer from.
Sehun has been underutilized by SM for so long, but the fact that he's still dealing with this kind of mistreatment after 7 years since debuting is just baffling.
As I mentioned previously, all fans agree that he isn't a match for Chen's vocals or Chanyeol's rap, but that doesn't mean he's talentless!
He can actually rap quite well if given the right material and his performances in various songs are a testament to that, and even vocally he is quite good.
To have him just sit there like he doesn't exist is so disrespectful, he's not just a beautiful face, he's actually pretty talented.
The sad part though, he's not the only one, if you know anything about NCT, you probably know that WinWin suffers from the same fate, if not worse!
He barley gets anyhting to do, no lines, and often his screen time is so short, you blink and you miss it! And as a fan its so frustrating to witness a talent being wasted, and I can't even imagine how he must feel.
ATEEZ, who I adore, also have a member suffering from this. I loved their latest album so much, but if I had to complain about one thing , it would definitely be about Yeosang getting so little to do across the entire thing.
These idols spend so many years training like crazy, and companies throw all that hard work down the toilet by having some of them just stand their like they're some kinda of additional package that nobody really needs, it's just there.
If you are not going to use them, why have them train for so long, sacrifice so many things, abandon their loved ones and so much more, why?
Idols like BTS' Taehyung and Jin shared this fate earlier in their careers, but fans rallied for their idols and the company listened, so I hope fans voice their opinion on the matter; I know many fans especially EXO lovers would say that they've been yelling about Sehun being mistreated for seven long years, why would SM listen now, but you never know; one must keep fighting for their beliefs till they see them realized.
