Right of the bat, I want anyone reading this to know that I have never listened to any song by CLC. I don't know anything about them, and today "Devil" ( their new single) popped up on my twitter feed, and I am so glad I clicked that link because I really liked this song.
The title "Devil" would make anyone think this is a dark, grim song with a heavy, perhaps emotional theme, then it starts and the beat is fun,sweet , giving you that cute,light vibe many girl groups such as TWICE and Red Velvet are famous of, then the lyrics push this song ahead and make it stand out.
So,the "Devil "is not an ex-partner, it's not someone the girls are attacking, it's the girls themselves, they are the Devil.
The lyrics detail how each one of these girls is capable of doing some really bad things, like literally ending someone, if they are provoked. They may look cute and nice, but deep down there's is a monster that could be unleashed.
I love how cute the chorus sounds then you realize they're saying stuff like: " Ending you would mean nothing to me" and "You've awaken a part I've tried so hard to keep calm" .Your perception of the song completely shifts once you undertand what they're saying.
It's dark stuff delivered in the sweetest way possible, and that's what they explain throughout the track.A real devil doesn't need to look like a devil, it could look cute and innocent and still be capable of causing so much damage.
I love Yeeun rap so much, and I think her flow is really good; vocalists do a good job as well.
I genuinely believe this is one of the better singles of 2019, it's clever; the way the sound and theme are opposites was a great choice. I am really excited to dive into their previous releases, and I hope people would give Devil a try.
