Did SuperM Cheat Their Way Into BB200 Number 1 Spot?

Even before it was announced that SuperM has debuted at number ONE on the famous Billboard 200 chart, there were hundreds, if not thousands, of tweets about them cheating their way to the top.

Fans of different groups were so mad at the methods SM used to secure that spot, and they didn't hide their anger, so are they right? did SuperM actually cheat? or are they simply hateful antis who are trying their best to cope with the fact that a group they despise did so well?
If you want the straightforward answer without reading the whole thing, it goes like this: No, SuperM did NOT cheat! if want the arguments that support the statement that was  made then Keep on reading.

So, what did SuperM do exactly to make so many people go bananas? The answer can be given in one word: Bundles!

Bundling is simply a way to boost sales and get that  high chart position. Offers differ according to each artist, but famous examples include selling merch or tour tickets and including an album with each sale.

Many believe this to be unethical and deceitful, but the truth is, its what many artists are doing now. The music industry is forever changing, streaming is what over 80% of consumers  use to listen to music, and physical albums are basically dying out.

  • "In 2018,  39 albums hit the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart, and 18 of those were sold as part of merch deals"

This quote is taken from this amazing article Taylor Swift is the Only Artist Who Can Sell CDs, I highly recommend that you give it a read because it explains how the music industry is changing: How streaming affected things, and how many artists are using bundles in order to boost their sales.

Many would argue that even though this practice is legal, it's still an unethical, and Nicki Minaj would agree with that statement.
When the rapper released her album "Queen", she was blocked from the number spot by Travis Scott who was giving albums for every merch and tour pass his fans purchased.

Nicki went on a full  Twitter Rant, and she even addressed the issue on Ellen; she was so mad and she accused him of cheating and stealing her rightful number one spot.
The truth ,however, is different, Travis did not cheat, because though what he did might seem wrong to many people, it actually isn't; it's simply how music work nowadays.

You can hate it, call it whatever you want , but the truth is these are legal, normal trends that the music business is adopting, and we are likely to see more of this in the future.

Now to the real ridiculous part: Many people online were attacking SM for tweeting constantly about the group, as well as having too many live streams, saying that they begged their way into the number spot, and that was laughable.
Promoting is a crucial part of any business, and music is no different. Obviously SM didn't create this group for fun, they want revenue so they're investing and being mad at that is just crazy!

The bottom line is, SuperM did nothing wrong, and that number one position they got is rightfully theirs, the only thing we can do about this would be to Congratulate them!
