I was quite excited for SuperM and their debut because I love and follow all members in their original groups, and when SM released the teaser for this track, it got me even more hyped!
If you follow me on any social platform, you probably know what I thought of this song, but I am here to share more insights on why I ended up feeling the way I did about it.
Usually I leave music videos for the end, but I want to get it out of the way. I think the video was a little too much! When they were filming in real locations, it was fine (I really enjoyed Taemin's solo dance towards the end), but the overuse of special effects was way over the top in my opinion, the huge stadium sequence for example wasn't one of my favorite. It even feels like there is no relation whatsoever amongst some of the different places!
Moving on to the actual song now! I really liked the intro and the opening line; the drop and beat were fine as well, then comes Taeyong's rap which I wasn't a fan of, Kai's verse was just bad, and as much as I love Ten his verse wasn't great too.
I don't like the lyrics Baekhyun and Taemin sang, but their beautiful voices made things a little better.
I liked the "I don't even care, here we burn the stage", but the "put your hands in the air let me see you bounce" line was a big no!
Thank God for Lee Mark because he saved this song for me! His second verse was really good, not only was his flow amazing, but it had my favorite line from the song:"Opinionated but I'm always spitting straight facts".
Lucas barley got anything to do here, but I believe even other members didn't really get the chance to truly showcase the incredible talents we know they possess.
I feel like part of the reason I didn't enjoy this song as many others is the high expectations I had. All members are extremely talented, they have given us various amazing performances throughout the years, so I thought having them all in one group would result in producing a masterpiece, and unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
A final note concerning the song would be the overuse of English,it just didn't work well. We all know SM's goal is conquer the western market, especially America, but everyone loved these members and their groups when they sang in full Korean, so I wish they would understand and believe that fans will love the song if its good regardless of the language because if using Korean was a problem,Kpop would've never made it globally.
Making a song in English won' make it appeal to the masses more, making a "Good" song will.
"Jopping" Card:
*Score: 6.4/10
*Label: Fair
*Star of The Song: Mark
*Final Thoughts: It's a decent song, not what you'd expect from "The Avengers of Kpop", but it's not the worst.
